SHAWNA BOLINGBROKE

ARTIST & TEACHER

About Shawna...

Shawna Bolingbroke is an artist and teacher based in northern Virginia.

Her artwork explores  the concepts of repetition, variation, and how these patterns effect identity, decision making, and the interaction between individuals and their environments. To do this she uses imagery representative of patterns she has observed in her history (personal and familial) as well as symbols of the world she lives in. Much of her work is done with mixed media, but she is particularly drawn to the process of Monoprint printmaking, as the process itself revolves around repetition and variation

Her classes and workshops teach technical art skills and therapeutic techniques, while putting a strong emphasis on personal growth, self expression, and finding joy in the process.

Shawna graduated as an Art + Design student at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking with minors in Psychology and Yoga Studies in May 2018.  While attending school, Shawna served as an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow in the printmaking department and as the Vice President of the USU Print Guild. She has received several scholarships including the Susan Blue Sky Scholarship from the Center of Women and Gender, the Farquar Art Scholarship, and the Marion Hyde Art Scholarship. Shawna also spent time volunteering abroad in an orphanage in Phnom Penh Cambodia, where she organized both Art and English class curriculums, and painted a wall mural for the children.

When not teaching or art making, Shawna enjoys hiking, doing yoga, and playing tourist with her husband and daughter.
